BlackBenz Race vehicle: blackbenz location: UNMIK headquarters, Prishtina, Kosovo, 2006 audio sources: test race, voice "BlackBenz Race" focuses on the space of Albanian migrants in Switzerland. The blackbenz vehicle is the central metaphor of the project. The black limousine is a status symbol of the migrant community, a signifier of obscure trading and trafficking across transcontinental routes, and it refers to the subculture of illegal races. "BlackBenz Race" is currently being planned for 2007 by KR in collaboration with Arben Gecai, Osman Osmani and Felix Stalder. A number of Swiss and Albanian participants will be recruited to participate in the race with their black cars. The route of the semi-fictional race leads from Zurich (CH) via Bari (IT), Tirana (AL) and Tetovo (MK) to Prishtina (Kosovo, UNMIK controlled), and back to Zurich. "BlackBenz Race" explores the intersection of public spheres and migrant spaces. The participants of the race will have a dual role as drivers and reporters. Via their mobile phones and other tactical media devices they will be updating a blogging system that is a means of communication for the participants, and to the wider public. project page: www.blackbenz.ch/ |
